Enjoy a ‘Weekend of Wine’ where you discover the secrets of growing grapes and making wine. You will blend your own wine, bottle the blend, design and print your own labels and take the wine home with you to share with family and friends. All activities are conducted in the magnificent vineyards and wine production area of Felsberg Winery at Glen Aplin in the Granite Belt.
Your ‘Weekend of Wine’ includes the following activities:
Arrive at Felsberg Winery prior to midday on SATURDAY for a casual lunch and introduction from the winemaker.
Saturday afternoon includes presentations and practical experience in the following topics:
• Establishing a vineyard
• The early years of grapevine development
• The annual vineyard cycle
• Assessing quality in the vineyard
• The all important harvest period
• Winemaking basics
• Winery operations
• Winemaking theory
• Tasting and judging wines
• Food and wine matching
You will then be given the opportunity to create your own blend of wine (in groups of two) from a selection of red and white wines in tanks and barrels. It will be your decision on what varieties to blend in what percentages. You will then make a trial blend to present at dinner for discussion with other participants and the winemaker.
Saturday evening will include a dinner where the trial wines will be tasted by all participants and discussed while tasting benchmark wines from Australia and the world.
___________
SUNDAY morning will start (not too early) with a full cooked breakfast and briefing on the morning activities:
• Wine label law – meeting your legal requirements
• Marketing wine – packaging and promotion
• Bottling theory
You will then bottle one dozen (per person) of your chosen blend to be labelled with your design printed from our commercial label printer.
Your ‘Weekend of Wine’ will complete early on Sunday afternoon with a light lunch and presentation of your ‘Weekend Wine Master’ award certifying you as a bona-fide master of wine-blending from the Felsberg school of ‘Weekend Wine Experience’. Of course you will take home your dozen bottles of wine over which you will share your new found knowledge with admiring family and friends. You will also take home an experience that you will remember for a lifetime and will have made a new group of friends who have shared your wonderful experience.
In summary, your ‘Weekend of Wine’ includes:
• Lunch and dinner on Saturday including wines
• Breakfast and a light lunch on Sunday
• 1 dozen bottles of wine as blended and labelled by you
• Notes on the theory presented
• Certificate of successful completion of the ‘Weekend of Wine’
• A surprise or two that I’ve forgotten to include in this outline. You may even wish to swap some of your wine with other participants in order to ‘mix’ your dozen.
You will need to bring with you:
• Notebook for taking notes (not essential but may be of interest)
• Fully enclosed shoes
• Casual clothing that you don’t mind accidentally spilling some wine onto.
• A good sense of humour and the ability to have fun
